To Be a Rubber Ball Covered in Sugar

Bouncy bouncy bouncy!
Crunch crunch crunch!
To be a rubber ball covered in sugar
bouncing stupid
by a small, dilapidated shed
where a friendly goat chuckles
at butterflies
in a sunny meadow

To breathe in the trees
and eat tacos by a river
with fresh pepper stuff in a bowl
A gentle fiddler walks across the water
she has dark skin
and is dressed in flowing orange and red
that melts into the line
between water and sunset

Bounce! Crunch! Bounce! Crunch!
Oh!
A RUBBER BALL COVERED IN SUGAR
I AM
I am free
and thoughtless

But as a rubber ball
I cannot bounce in grass
and dirt
and so I always end up
in
the parking lot
